Within the initiative, the Zero Suicide Initiative has collaborated with the Zero Suicide Institute and the Quad Cities Behavorial Health Coalition in an effort to lower suicide rates and make systemic change within our community. To give you an overview of what this initiative entails. The Zero Suicide initiative is an evidence-based intervention framework that was designed to present a set of approaches to respond to the rise in the number of suicidal individuals in the Quad Cities region. This includes offering best practice protocols, resources, and appropriate training to organizations who work with suicidal individuals. This is a community-wide, comprehensive, holistic initiative that aims to prevent deaths by increasing community awareness and involving all community members as potential responders. Ultimately, this project involves health-care systems and community members in training, discourse, and ongoing quality improvement based on best practices in order to meet the ultimate vision of zero suicide deaths by 2025.
The Quad Cities Behavioral Health Coalition decided to utilize the Zero Suicide Initiative framework to implement a comprehensive, holistic, community-wide effort incorporating best-practice, evidence-based suicide risk assessment, safety plan development, and response/referral/follow-up protocols:
